2012 RCYC Midweek Racing Starts

RCYC-MW-May 5-8-2012 6-40-26 PMStarcross' Michael Penny and 7 other RCYC boats joined the fray on the initial RCYC Midweek (MW) Spring series -Race 1.  In what portends to be a competitive season at the Island club, low wind speed and north-eastern wind direction did not deter sailors. The favourable temperature, balmy by early season standards, should favour the Fleet 4 first major regatta at the always fun ABYC, coming up in less than two weeks.  Here are the first MW results: RCYC Midweek Results

2012  RCYC Open Regatta

From 2012 RCYC Open Day 1 and 2

The results are in for the second regatta in the 2012 J105 Championship Series and drum roll please .... they are pretty much the same as last time. Hey Jude continues their winning form and edges out Planet B by one point. Sound familiar? Yes it once again came down to the last race and going into it Planet B was leading the regatta by 1 point but needed to win  race #6 in order to clinch the Regatta.
Hey Jude decided to start at the pin and Planet B chose the more conservative RC side of the course. Without other boats holding HJ back, they were able to take advantage and get onto port early and cross the fleet. That was it. The braintrust on Planet B was concerned about the righty which was threatening up the course, and also being a black flag start preferred an end where they could bail out if necessary. Shows you that to win these days you need to accept the risk before you get the reward.

Third place went to ReTern who probably sailed the best of all the boats all weekend and finished just 1 point back of Planet B. So it was as tight as ....

Fleet4  Sixteen J105's showed up on the line for the 2012 version of this RCYC Classic regatta. Saturday's weather looked like it might not support any racing at all, but once the reliable sea breeze kicked into gear, the onshore postponement was lifted and it was off to the start of a great 3-race day. Boats had to fight a current of almost 1/2 knot coming down the course which made starting at the pin the most difficult. Planet B won the pin and the day and posted the score to beat with 1 - 1  - 2 finishes. Also strong on the day was the Jamaica Me Crazy team which had the Milkman back on board keeping Peter focused and the crew settled. It's great to see the Milkman back in town. Also, noteworthy was the Live Edge team minus Mike who was soccer-momming. Darren had one hand on the tiller and the other on a "beverage" and Derek was playing the tunes.

The J105 Feet is hosting a Commodore's Challenge during the Founder's Regatta June 23 & 24.

You may have seen the poster promoting the event by now - if not one is attached. This event is open to EVERYONE. Beyond those participating in the Founder's Regatta we are encouraging all RCYC Members and their guests to attend.
