2011 J105 Fall Regatta

The Planet B team raced in near perfect conditions and it and the fleet enjoyed excellent Race Management with a sligthly modified Windward Leward course.  Sunday's racing, weather and wind were a great way to close the 2011 J105 racing season.  The Fall Regatta was the final event in the J105 Fleet 4 Championship and closed the RCYC Club championship, also taken by Planet B.

Late September racing provides the most favourable conditions in Lake Ontario, and this weekend was not the exception.  Both in wind speed, wind direction, wave action and even currents, Saturday and Sunday provided the needed challenge to make it for fair and purposeful racing.

Saturday, The Usual Suspects, with three on board, were able to have a great start and sustained a lead in the second of three races for the day.  Wind ranged from a low of 4 to 10 knots later in the day.  Boats in either side of the course prevailed and both wind strength and currents made the differences for those that squirted out fastest out of the starting line.  Endeavour, showing late season consistency was 2nd for the day, beating Usual Suspects and placed second just two points Planet B.

Sunday, was even better than Saturday. Seas were warm and the current less prevalent, was not a factor today. Winds were pretty steady with the normal shift to the left, albeit more subtley than in other regattas. Wind speed was swifter with 10-17kts from the east, again classic Lake Ontario conditions.  Today it was a Planet B and Thunderstruck show battling it out in all three races with The Usual Suspects still racing with three closely behind in all races.
