Post Season RacingOct 22, 2011. The last post season race took place on a typical autumn day at the Toronto Harbour.  Temperature of 10C and calm wind, did not deter the last three hold-outs to finish the 2011 sailing in a flourish. The J105 Fleet 4 sailed in great concitions most of the sailing season.  Late season September and October racing is very rewarding as conditions are generally very favourable to sailing with good to great wind and the short courses on the Toronto Harbour with multiple races each day. Post sailing races, although informal, are a great way to practice and test new ways to approach old habits. Late season racing usually also means that as crews thin out there's an informal understanding that the remaing will encourage mixing crews of amongst the remaing racing boats.

The Usual Suspects - 16.7 knts - EYC Video

Great video from The Usual Suspects at 2011 EYC Open, with sustained wind at 23 knts gusting 28 knts, as they approach the windward mark. A regatta all those that participated will remember fondly. Choose HD full screen setting for best viewing.

The sequence is framed on a Port Tack Layline, and begins with normal up-wind to "Tack or Cross" on Sentient and the rest of the fleet near by. The crew makes a good tack, and they are ahead at the windwark mark.

They are five that day but six would have been better. They are not deterred and once their chute is up and the boat speed quickly races to to a comfortable, but fast 14 knts. Note the calm an ease of handling even as the puffs over 28 knts push her boa speed to 16.7 knts and the bow wave is spilling over the sides!!!  "Hey is the forehatch dogged?" screams Terry. No matter, what a sweet ride indeed!
