J105 Logo (TM)Safety Boat Inspections:

Here's what we plan to do on Inspection Day - Thursday Sept 18 to make it easy on everybody:

There will be 3 teams doing inspections so we only need the afternoon to do this - that should make most skippers happy to have the morning to do other stuff. Inspection times will be in 1/2 hour increments starting at 1.00PM and ending at 3.30PM .  Please register now - if not done so already - with Lindsay at the RCYC Sailing Office - the form is online at www.j105.ca - and book your inspection at the same time.

An Inspection Team will visit your boat so stay at your dock or assigned place and please be aboard at the time you have reserved.

Inspection will include several items - see the attachtment for boat measurement for what's on the list - included is proper lifeline set-up.

There have been a few comments on slack lifelines so get them right to
save time beforehand - see the The Technical Committee guidance on tautness of lifelines

Also, make sure you have aboard (a) sail tags on your sails all ready to be checked and that they jive with the official sail tag list on the www.j105.org website; and (b) a valid Boat Weight Certificate.

You will also need to get your crew weighed-in from 2.00PM to 6.00PM. Please see Lindsay in the Sailing Office and make sure each skipper and crew sign off on the from - see atached. You won't be scored if Lindsay does not have proper weights along with a signature for everybody aboard.

J105 Logo (TM)Boat Weight Inspections/Certificates:
Below is the schedule and procedure for the September 2 Boat Weighing.

New certificates will be required for the 7 boats below to race in the 2008 Canadians. The 7 boats are the top five boats for the season to date: Hey Jude, Jamaica Me Crazy, Planet B,  Re-Tern and Sonic Boom; plus Live Edge and Starcross who have had significant keel and/or rudder work since last years weighing.

Please have your boat at the RCYC Gas Dock at the time below (as previously agreed with most of you) on Tuesday September 2
It must be "Boat Empty" as per the attached Exhibit 7.3A. Following a pump-out and inspection at the gas dock the boat will then go to the travellift.
  • 12.30 - Re-tern
  • 13.00 - Planet B
  • 13.30 - Hey Jude
  • 14.00 - Sonic Boom (per Bernie)
  • 14.30 - Jamaica Me Crazy
  • 15.00 - Starcross
  • 15.30 - Live Edge
Please confirm your attendance (or your designate) along with a contact number and please have your boat at the dock at the appropriate time.
Dan O'Dwyer and I will be organizing the show along with the RCYC Travellift staff and a third party individual to vet the scale readings. We will need some help at the gas dock for inspection and pump-out. God forbid if we still have to dump any old junk left on the boat so read the exhibit and give it to your designate. Anything loose, especially the cooler and even the toilet paper comes off. However, leave your jib and spinniker blocks on

J105 Logo (TM)Boat Weight Certificates
This years Canadians (Sept19-21) will require that you have a valid boat certificate and subject your boat and crew to an inspection.

Last year all boats were weighed and certificates issued. If you don't have one get it from Dad O'Dwyer. If he does not have one you will need to get your boat weighed.

If you are in the top 5 boats for the season to the EYC regatta, you will need a new certificate.

If your boat has had the bottom or keel modified, or made any major modification to the boat since the date of your certificate you will need a new certificate. It is your responsibility to notify your measurer (that's me) if this is the case.

The list of boats that will require a new weight certificate are, Hey Jude, Jamaica Me Crazy, Planet B, Starcross, Sonic Boom, Live Edge, and Re-Tern - all meeting at least one of the criteria above.

Skippers of the above boats please block out Tuesday September 2 on your calendars - sometime between Noon thru to 4.00PM - to have your boat cleaned out and delivered to the RCYC gas dock at a time to be scheduled.

And please volunteer you and your crew to help do the weighing.

Volunteers - we need volunteers - skippers and crew will do nicely. Please step forward and let me know the times and dates that you are able to help.

Thank you

Peter Hall
Your dedicated and officially appointed Chief Measurer who accepted when Jim Rathbun said that Dan O'Dwyer would do all the work!!
