Over 100 boats attended the 2nd CanAm Challenge (formerly Level Regatta) in Youngstown July 25-26. The J-105 fleet had 13 boats from around the lake competing. Sailors were treated to hot sunny conditions for both days.

Hats off to the Race Committee as they managed to get 7 races in over the two days despite the light/no wind conditions on Sunday. Although the starts were aggressive, recalls were keep to a minimum as the Race Committee was effective at identifying individual boats and/or utilizing the Z and I flags.

With relatively flat water and light winds, the racing was close with tight, overlapped mark roundings and close finishes being common. Mandate and Hey Jude showed a slight speed advantage on the fleet over the weekend with Mandate having the edge on Saturday and Hey Jude on Sunday.  With scores being close after the first day, the fading wind on Sunday made for tense racing with big gains being made with each puff and lull, especially when boats from the other fleets entered the mix at the corners.

Saturday night activities included live music, a bbq and beer tent with the J105 fleet well represented at the CanAm Challenge hockey tournament with crew members of Starcross and Trident on the Canadian team in the Final.

The top five finishers were: 1. Mandate 11 pts, 2. Hey Jude 13 pts, 3. Jamaica Me Crazy 33 pts, 4. Endeavour 37 pts, 5. Live Edge 40 pts.
